10 Things To Do In Paris

Paris, the capital of France, is a romantic city filled with history and culture. Although it is an expensive place to visit, there are also many free activities to enjoy when touring the city. Enjoy Paris year-round with some of these ideas.

1) Eiffel Tower

This iconic landmark is made completely of wrought iron. It is located on the Champs de Mars, and is one of the most recognized landmarks in the world. The Eiffel tower is open daily from 9:30-at least 11 pm and you have to purchase tickets to go to any of the three observation decks. Try to visit during the day for the best views of Paris, and at night to enjoy the spectacular light shows.

2) Cruise the Seine

There is nothing more romantic than taking a cruise down the river Seine. With some of the most beautiful bridges and urban landscape scenes, you can see much of Paris. Some companies offer dinner cruises that take you past Paris’ most famous illuminated landmarks.

3) Arc de Triomphe

This famous monument, located at on the Seine River, offers one of the best views in the city. Visitors can marvel at the structure from ground level, or climb the 40 steps to get to the top.

4) Centre Pompidou

This modern and eclectic structure was completed in the late 1970s, and is home to many attractions, including the National Museum of Modern Art and the Public Information Library. The exhibits have a ticketed entry.

5) Moulin Rouge

This famous cabaret is home of the French Can-Can and offers tourists a traditional cabaret experience full of dance, music, lights, and costumes. Ticket prices start at 80 euro, and move upward when you order drinks and dinner. Elegant attire is required

6) Louvre Museum

The Louvre is quite possibly the most famous art museum in the world, and is a must-see when visiting Paris. It is home of the Mona Lisa and hundreds of other world famous paintings and sculptures. It is an enormous museum, so do your research ahead of time so you can plan your visit accordingly.

7) Notre Dame Cathedral

The Notre Dame Cathedral is a beautiful Gothic cathedral that was completed in 1200s. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Paris, and it was where Napoleon Bonaparte crowned himself emperor. It is free to enter the cathedral; however, admission to the towers requires a paid ticket.

8) Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is located about 30 minutes outside of Paris, and well worth a day trip when visiting the city. It was the official royal residence of French kings from 1682-1789. The palace is open every day except Monday with a ticketed entry, and the Versailles Park, which is free, is open daily.

9) Champs-Elysees Avenue

This is the most famous avenue in Paris, and possibly the world. It runs for about 1.2 miles and beautiful to walk both day and night. It is close to trendy stores, theaters, restaurants, and entertainment and is a great place to stay if you want to be close to the action in Paris.

10) Disneyland Paris

Although it is not a traditional tourist destination, Disneyland Paris is a great stop for people traveling with families. It is about 20 miles outside of Paris and comprised of two theme parks: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. It is great to visit during the off-peak seasons to avoid crowds and long lines.
